What does BFSG mean for your company?

The BSFG is the German implementation of the EAA, an EU directive that sets minimum standards for the accessibility of products and services. The following areas affected:

• ATMs and banking services

• Computers, phones and TV sets

• Telecommunications and transport services

• Online retailers

• E-book readers and machines (e.g. cash and ticket machines)

From the 28th June 2025 all new products and services must meet these standards. The exceptions include private and purely business (B2B) offers and small businesses with fewer than ten employees or an annual turnover of up to two million euros. In addition, companies can be exempted from the requirements if the implementation represents an economic risk.

Why Accessibility is Important

1. Compliance with legal requirements: From mid-over 2025, your digital offerings must meet the accessibility standards. This is part of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and a human right.

• Videos and Audio Files: Offer subtitles and audio descriptions

• Texts and headings: Use simple and clear language.

• Accessibility Statement: Publish an Accessibility Statement on your website that contains information about how to ensure accessibility, as well as the parts of your website or online shop that are not yet accessible.

• Contact option: Offer a way for users to report barriers.
